About the event

Derby LIVE and SB5 present legendary 80s band Happy Mondays plus iconic band The Bluetones and the pedigree Britpop legends Cast in a unique, one off gig at Derby Arena as part of Derby County Football Club’s former Captain Shaun Barker’s testimonial year.

Happy Mondays, known for their own blend of alternative rock, psychedelic rock and electronic dance music will be taking to the stage after celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of their album Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches last year.

Formed in Salford in 1980, their first album Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile was followed by two classics, Bummed and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, which went platinum in the UK selling more than 350,000 copies. This put the band firmly on the map as one of the most influential bands to come out of the UK in the early 1990s.

Happy Mondays have been playing festivals throughout 2016, alongside writing and recording a new album. The current line-up is Shaun Ryder on vocals, guitarist Mark Day, Paul Ryder on bass, drummer Gary Whelan, Mark Berry on percussion, Rowetta on vocals and keyboardist and musical director Dan Broad.

Joining Happy Mondays is the iconic band The Bluetones who are back celebrating their 20th anniversary. The London four-piece are credited with filling the gap that The Stone Roses left behind, providing graceful but muscular guitar pop with slightly psychedelic overtones.

Formed in Hounslow in 1994, the group consisted of guitarist Adam Devlin, drummer Eds Chester, vocalist Mark Morriss and his brother Scott, who played bass. After a split in 2011, the band announced they would reform in 2015 and the original quartet are back in business, with a show sure to create new memories of a fantastic gig as the bands blast out hit after hit.

Pedigree Britpop legends Cast will also be joining Happy Mondays in this special concert. The band was originally formed in 1992, from playing bass in legendary Northern band The LA's, John Power (guitar/vocals), Liam 'Skin' Tyson (lead guitar - also playing with Robert Plant) and Keith O'Neill (drums) are joined by former La's member Jay Lewis on bass.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the classic album All Change, Cast united with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for a special live performance in December 2015 for a sold out show at the historic Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Due to popular demand and extra show was added in February 2016. Now, you can see Cast at Derby Arena in time for the release of their new single Do That, released in October, folllowed by their new studio album Kicking Up The Dust in early 2017.
